Depression Support Group - Woking:

 

A part of a national network of depression self-help groups organised by Depression Alliance - The UK's leading Charity for those affected by depression.

 

The Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at CornerHouse (8:00-10:00pm) and aims to provide:

 

  • A safe place in which to be listened to with respect and understanding, and in confidence.

  • An opportunity for emotional, practical and social support.

  • A chance to share information, experiences and perceptions with fellow sufferers.

  • The group provides information and support to people affected by eating disorders.

  • The Bureau provides advice to people with mental health and related problems and their carers.
  • The service is available to people using inpatient, Day Hospital and Community mental health services.
  • Advisers help with many types of problems, including benefits, debt, housing, employment, consumer and various other issues.

CornerHouse - Woking Mental Health Resource Centre

 

  • CornerHouse is managed by Woking Mental Health Resource Centre Limited, a not-for-profit independent company. It is intended to be a 'resource' for the voluntary sector, encouraging and fostering the creation of voluntary groups. It will assist them in their activities by providing advice, support and a place where meetings and social events can be held.

 

  • CornerHouse provides a focal point for a wide range of voluntary sector mental health activity in Woking, right across its diverse social and ethnic mix. Success in this will greatly enrich the support available to people at the time and location in which they most require it.

Matrix Advocacy Service

 

  • Matrix Advocacy Service is part of Matrix Service Development & Training Ltd. 
  • Matrix are based in Hampshire providing national and international training programmes on mental health and related subjects. 
  • Matrix also runs service user involvement projects in Hampshire.

Rethink Carers Group

 

Carers of people with mental health problems are offered support by Rethink including:

 

  • Listening to and supporting individual carers
  • Encouraging carers to recognise their own needs
  • Providing information and advice
  • Raising awareness of the needs of carers amongst mental health professionals
  • Supporting carers in accessing services and benefits
  • Providing training for carers on practical coping skills and other issues such as legislation.

 

A carers support group is held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at CornerHouse in Woking 7:00-9:00pm.

Shifa - Asian Women's MH Support Group

 

  • This group has been established specifically for Asian Women with mental health problems, and aims to provide a safe and secure setting where members can socialise without feeling stigmatised or isolated.

  • Group members are encouraged to develop life-long learning skills which may help them to increase their self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • The group also concentrates on the complex cultural and spiritual needs of its Asian women members, an area where in the past help has not been readily available.

  • Shifa meet on Thursdays 9:30am-12:30pm at CornerHouse, 2 Courtenay Road, Woking, GU21 5HQ.

  • A weekly social group for local people with mental health problems, or who may be feeling isolated, depressed or anxious.
  • Sunbury Accord is run as a self-help group, offering a hot meal, good conversation, music and board games in a safe and friendly environment.
  • The group also offers the services of it's own Advocacy worker, who can provide support, advice and information.

 

Sunbury Accord meet each Friday evening 7-10pm at Sunbury Youth Club, Briony Way, Sunbury.

The Grange - Spelthorne Mental Health Association

 

The Grange has been running for many years and aims to provide mental health day services for people in the Spelthorne area.

Note: All referrals to join the Grange must be made by a Keyworker.

 

  • After  joining the group there is a daily attendance charge of £1.00
  • Door to door transport is provided.
  • A meal is also available for a further daily charge of £2.30.
  • A daily programme of activities are provided including relaxation, woodwork, dressmaking, pottery etc.
  • There are also day and week-end trips available.
